Some of the suspects were nabbed after being caught gambling. They
were arrested during an operation aimed at curbing illegal drugs,
illicit liquor and traffic offences. The operation was conducted under
the leadership of Mererani Police Station in Charge, Thomas Mniko.

confirmed the arrest, saying the suspects were netted in a special
operation organised by the Police Force.
“All the suspects are held at the police station as investigations are being carried out.”
Wambura said four of them were found in possession of 15
kilogrammes of khat, five had 40 joints of marijuana and three were
arrested with 20 litres of illicit liquor commonly known as gongo.
He mentioned suspects who were caught with khat as Omari Hassan
(45), Patrick Shirima (39), Amos Aseri (57) and Joseph Joshua (45) .
Omari Edward (21) and Stanley Godfrey (35) were allegedly peddling
illicit liquor when they were nabbed.
Two miners of Tanzanite Block B Area in Mererani, Aminiel Kisako
(55) and Kelvin James (24), were arrested for allegedly possessing
five kilogramme of marijuana.
“We also arrested bodaboda ‘drivers’ with offences ranging from
riding without helmets to carrying more than one passenger,” said
Wambura.
During the operation, he said, they also arrested residents of
Songambele and Endiamtu for gambling. He named them as Rashid Ramadhan
(21), Gabriel Robert (28), Said Ogalo (33) and Amiri Jafari (22).
Police were still carrying out investigations before taking the
suspects to court.
